I'm Okay! And My Mom Isn't BLUE Anymore!

I don't know what all the fuss was about! Just because the vet told my mom that she had to feed me peroxide and cold water yesterday to try to make me throw up the pill I probably swallowed...and just because she had to do this twice and it didn't work!

And just because we had to rush to my vet's office on an emergency call on Sunday and drive 50 miles to get there. And just because the vet put something stinging in my eye to make me throw up the pill I probably swallowed (and it still didn't work).

And just because I had all this stuff in my stomach and the vet fed me a large tube of black carbon to absorb everything including the pill I probably swallowed...

I don't know why my mom was so scared and worried! Because I'm fine! Today, my vet said I'm fine! And I feel fine! And I think my mom feels fine now too. I'm pretty sure she no longer has the Monday BLUES! She's been hugging me even more than usual and acting happy and relieved!

Anyway...I don't know what all the fuss was about! Honestly, I don't!

My Mom Has the Monday Blues!

I have to go to the vet today so my mom can't blog until maybe later in the day. I had to go to the vet yesterday too...on emergency. My mom has the blues 'cause she's all worried about me 'cause she thought maybe I ate a pill. She wasn't sure but we had to go to the vet anyway. But I really didn't mind 'cause I got to ride in the car with my mom and dad and there's nothing I like better. (I don't have the blues...just my mom. She'll be back soon!) Signed: Bonnie Lass.

A Christmas Memory for Pink Saturday!

When Mom asked what I wanted for Christmas, I couldn't decide what to tell her. There were two things I wanted—desperately! There was that sweet little red-eared gray stuffed elephant I'd seen at Krom's Department Store and the gorgeous grown-up white angora sweater on the mannequin at Scott's Smartwear. The problem was I didn't want to admit that, at thirteen, I still wanted a kid's toy. So I told her the sweater was the thing I wanted most. She said it was awfully grown up and the subject was dropped.

Figuring the sweater was a "no-go," I decided to explain that there was this little elephant...but Mom asked me point blank didn't I think I was too old for such things. I gave up talking about it but I didn't give up wishing. I dreamed of gray elephants and white angora sweaters...elephants in angora sweaters...elephants singing in angora sweaters...dancing!

"How about some new pajamas?" Mom asked.

"Okay." If she was looking for enthusiasm, she'd come to the wrong place!

"Christmas is not about getting, anyway, Mom said. "It's about giving."

Forget it, I thought, Christmas was going to be a big bust!

On Christmas morning, Mom handed me a pretty package. I figured, for sure, it was a new pair of pajamas and couldn't believe my eyes when I found, instead, the white angora sweater. I guessed, from Mom's choice of gifts, that she was telling me to grow up.

But later that day, just before bedtime, Mom walked into the living room where I was sitting—caught between the confusing world of growing up and that of childhood—staring in wonder at the Christmas lights. Her hands were behind her back and she was smiling.

"I thought you needed this more than a pair of new pajamas," she said, as she brought out the little red-eared gray elephant and placed it in my hands.

I can see the twinkle in my mother's eyes, still, as I think back to that Christmas when she gave me the greatest gift of all—the knowledge that, no matter how old you are, it's always okay to be a kid at heart.

I wish all you grown-up kids out there a heartfelt Christmas and thank my mom for her fun-loving spirit, her wisdom, and her love.

World's Largest Grandest 1896 Amusement!

I received this beautiful birthday puzzle from a friend who discovered it at The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village gift shop. This 1896 Barnum and Bailey poster portrays the sights and sounds of the circus as they might crowd into a child's dream.

The poem in yellow reads, "This smiling face is multiplied a million times a year whereas the children's mightiest friend these wonderous shows appear. With sunny gleams of fairyland, with scenes of merriest glee, with cute and cunning animals from either side the sea."

No matter how one feels about the circus of old, the colors of this picture are truly beautiful...vintage lovely and a joy to see!
