The Wedding Dress, 1918.

Artist: Rosamond L. Smith. "The Wedding Dress," circa 1918.

Here is another offering of fine art from the lovely book, A Bridal Blessing. In a continuation of my tribute to June and the joy of weddings, I hope you enjoy this piece!

I'm wondering...what was the most special thing about your own wedding dress?

  1. I'm loving this series you've chosen for June. My Grandmother made my wedding dress out of cotton dotted swiss. Always hoped one my daughters would want to wear it but neither did. Guess it will stay in my closet until I have a granddaughter...

  2. I love the vintage, old wedding photo's. Funny I could view a million of them and never get bored. This is a lovely image you posted.
The most special thing about my wedding dress was my Moma made it herself. She was a talented seamstress , teaching herself the art of sewing starting with baby clothes. She sewed for many, many years . I still have that wedding dress she made me, she took quite a few hours attaching little seed pearls to it. Can you believe I was only 19 years old for that 1971 wedding. My second wedding dress was special because I picked it, being older and wiser the second time around. Seems like I have been married all my adult life, thank God this second marriage has lasted for 20 years this coming September.

  3. I so love the photo today. Looking back on our wedding - everything seemed perfect to me it was the day that I married my best friend. I was 19yrs old and he was 22 and we were so in love. I've fallen even more in love with the man and father that he has become. The dress? Yes it was beautiful and I still have it. But looking in from the outside I don't think that anyone else would say it was remarkable.

We'll be married 25years in October.

    Enjoy!

  4. I really love this picture. My wedding dress was simple, but my sister made my veil and it turned out so pretty.

  5. My dress was beautiful but what was special about it was the way it made me feel! I felt so many emotions wearing that dress! Love, mature, important and sophisticated! Love the image you posted:) ~Shelley

  6. Love that painting. My husband and I decided to get married in a very small ceremony. We didn't want our families to have to fly across the country when money was tight. My sister saw an ad for her local store, Dillards, with a beautiful wedding gown. Very simple, sleeveless - no frou-frou. She tried it on in the dressing room and then and there had it sent to me. What a surprise!

I told my husband-to-be that he had to leave for a while and I tried on my dress with my sister on the other end of the line. No video phones or skype back then!

  7. The charm, the elegance, the beauty ... probably a hand sewn delicate creation ... to die for, Coralie.

    Have a beau-TEA-ful weekend.

  10. HI CORALIE,
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL POST, SO LOVELY. MY WEDDING DRESS WAS MADE BY A VERY DEAR FRIEND OF MINE. SHE LOVED TO SEW, AND DID WELL AT WHAT SHE MADE. I HAD A WHITE BROCADE, TINY BUTTONS ON MY SLEEVES, AND GOING ALL THE WAY DOWN MY BACK.
I ONLY PAID FOR THE MATERIAL, AND ETC, IT COST ME $25.00.
TODAY IS SO DIFFERENT IN BUYING WEDDING DRESSES. THEY ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL, BUT QUITE EXPENSIVE. TAKE CARE, RIZZI

  11. Oh Coralie, I love weddings and I love this beautiful post and picture.

My wedding dress was, {to me} the prettiest gown I had tried on.
It had a sweetheart neckline, very form fitting with a Peplum jacket, made out of ivory, silk Dupioni. I loved it so much, I have it hanging on a vintage dress form in "the bridal suite" of our home (our master bedroom:)

I'd love to invite you to take a peek at my gown on my blog, dated May 11.

  12. What a lovely image - today, and for your T post too.
The thing I loved best about my wedding dress was that it was my mother's - a beautiful satin gown with a lace peplum.

  16. Wew..beautiful wedding dresses. Great post! I?m just starting out in community wedding media and trying to learn how to do it well - resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it's all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case
