Proud Grandparents!
We are so proud of our grandson Bryan! This past week, Bryan, a senior in the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, was honored with a distinguished student award for ethics and leadership in dentistry. The award was introduced by the Dean, R. Bruce Donoff, DDS, MD (pictured above with Bryan following the ceremony). On my son Paul's blog, Dental Nation, he writes, "Bryan has worked hard and persevered through the demands of dental school at Harvard. He has kept his sights on the goal of completing a quality education in dentistry. He is passionate about his profession and I know he will continue his lifelong quest for learning."
Congratulations, Bry! We love you!

Ten Things About Me!
My friend Jordiegirl from the United Kingdom has sent me this lovely award and I'm thrilled to accept it! Thanks so much for thinking of me. Now I must tell you 10 things about me that you might now know, so let's see...1) I love movies, films, and plays! In fact, I have acted in plays. One of my favorite roles was playing "Lulu" in Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party.
2) I have a red squirrel living in my garage and I'm trying to convince my husband that he should be allowed to stay there.
3) I've enjoyed having collections for many years and currently have a passion for vintage greeting cards and their beautiful boxes.
4) I love the color aqua!
5) I recently finished reading Geraldine Brooks' novel Year of Wonders, a novel about the plague which I found to be riveting!
6) I have a granddaughter who returned last week from two years in the Peace Corp in Jordan; she is headed for grad school at Johns Hopkins.
7) My grandson, her brother, is a junior in the Harvard School of Dentistry & Medicine.
8) Truly, I would rather craft than cook...any day! (Yet, I collect vintage cookbooks...go figure!)
9) I once worked for a national craft company designing patterns for items to make on looms.
10) I wrote my first story when I was eight years old. I used my grandfather's upright typewriter and typed with one finger. My mother, bless her, saved the original and I still have it!
Well, that's it. I'd like to give this award to my daily followers whose blogs I tremendously enjoy visiting. They fill my life with interesting new ideas, stories of their lives both like and unlike mine, and make me realize how much I value their friendships. Thank you all for being my wonderful friends!

You're A Great Read!
I want to thank Land Girl on the Home Front of Vancouver, Canada for awarding me this wonderful "Great Read" Blog Award. I’m truly honored to have been chosen! Thanks so much for thinking of me!I just love her blog “Letters from the Homefront.” It’s all about her passion for history, literature, the arts, and vintage fashion but, lately, especially anything 1940s and 1950s. Take a look! You’re gonna’ love it!
Since there's no way I can choose only 15 most loved blogs, I’m giving this award to all of my followers because it would be way too difficult to choose which I enjoy reading the most. I hope you’ll all take a look at some of the writings, art, and creativity of the wonderful bloggers who follow my blogs. They are all incredible and I love reading their inspiring stories every single day!
(Now don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY (see June 26 post) celebrating the opening of my etsy shop. The winner will be chosen on July 15 so there's still plenty of time! Pass this on to your friends, too, as everyone is welcome!)

For the Love of Reading!
I received this reading award from Doreen as she knows that I love books, especially historical and mysteries! Thank you Doreen! This is a fun award! The rules are:
1- collect the book that you have most handy.
2- Turn to page 161.
3- Find the 5th complete sentence.
4- Cite the sentence on your blog.
5- Pass it to 5 other blogs
Here's the 5th sentence I found on page 161 of World Without End by Ken Follett: "There, away from the noise, the bustle, and the blood in the nave, the senior physician-monks were clustered around the still-unconscious figure of the earl of Shiring."
This book follows Follett's The Pillars of the Earth and is a terrific read. Both books have over 900 pages but are still page-turners! I highly recommend these books for anyone who loves a good historical novel!I'm passing this fun award on to 5 others:
1) Pat at Pat Winter Gatherings
2) Bevie at My Creative World
3) Gingeyginge at The Adventures of Gingeyginge
4) Susan at Quilting For Less
5) Sandy at Quilting, sewing and life...

Butterflies Are Beautiful!
I received this beautiful award from Doreen! My friend Doreen creates the most amazing projects in the rooms in her miniature house! You really have to see it to believe it! Please click on over and say, "Hi"! You'll see what I mean!I just want to say that I haven't been posting as much lately as I would like to but I hope to get back to regular posting soon. My husband is recovering (really well) from his surgery, but my little dog Ginger has been in the veterinary hospital all week and is home for a day to see how she will do. She is having trouble with her neck and back which is causing her back legs to not work as they did. But she's much better than she was a week ago. Today she is home, not letting me out of her sight, very alert and happy to be home. But we are to keep her quiet and carry her in and out as needed. If you can spare a prayer for this little 12-year old sweetie, it would be wonderful!
Again, thank you for thinking of me, Doreen. This award could not have come at a better time! Thank you so much!

Thanks, Laurie! You're Awe-Summm!!!
I received this great, super blinky, blingy award from Laurie! Thank you, Laurie for thinking of me!!! However, to accept it, Laurie tells me I must "thrust aside all modesty and humility and blog about 7 things that make me awe-summm!"
So here goes:
1. I am learning to cook the cardiac diet way to keep my husband (& me) healthy after his open-heart surgery! And I do mean learning! I thought I had that cooking business all figured out years ago, but no. It's all about re-learning! Hard work since I'd rather be crafting!
2. I am blessed to have four wonderful children Paul, Tamara, Peter, and Carrie. They are amazing...just ask me!

2. I am blessed to have four wonderful children Paul, Tamara, Peter, and Carrie. They are amazing...just ask me!
3. I am also blessed to have grandchildren: Bryan, Allison, Jaclyn, Logan, and Paige. They're not only amazing; they are fabulous! (Can I take any credit for that?)
4. I have written and published two books of memoirs about my growing up days in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
5. I teach Women's Studies at a local university and love being able to help students understand more about the many cultural issues that affect them today.
6. Though I teach part-time, I am basically retired which allows me to spend time with family and friends. There's nothing better than that for me!
7. I am a huge animal lover and have three beautiful sheltie dogs who 'rule the roost' so to speak. They are the greatest fun and also comfort during our days spent at home.
Again, thank you for thinking of me, Laurie. I accept and pass this award on to all those who visit my blog because I think you are all particularly AWE-SUMMM!!!
