    Long ago, when The Great Dane was on exchange posting in Philadelphia, a man at a cocktail party told me that he 'liked Canadians, because they are so quaint'. I had to laugh, because he was dressed from head to foot in tweed and had a large and comical pipe clenched in his teeth - very quaint, himself!
