Of all the childhood toys I remember, my favorite is still my little bear named (by me) Sudsy-Wudsy! He was my constant companion when I was a little girl. He went everywhere with me and played just as hard as I did. But somewhere over the years, he went away...where, I do not know.
However, one day, two years ago, he showed up at a huge antique market near our home. I could not believe my eyes but there he was...and at a not so thrifty price, I might add.
"Look Jim," I whispered, "there's my bear I told you about! That bear right there is Sudsy-Wudsy!"
"How much?" Jim got right down to business. When I told him, the price, he stopped still and looked at me.
"It's too much, I know, but—"
"You need this bear, don't you?" Jim was already walking toward the booth. "I'll see what I can do."
And...you guessed it! When he came back he was carrying a small bear in a bag. My Sudsy-Wudsy had come home!
Are you kidding me? YOUR EXACT BEAR?

ReplyDeleteOh what a lucky find! I recently found my childhood doll - well not MINE but one just like it. And you are right about the price! My doll was "Thumbelina". Found it in an antique store in Colorado Springs. In the BOX! But they wanted $75 for it. Too much! So I passed her by! My husband looked at me and sys "You sure?" and I was so brave and said "Yup, keep on walking!".
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! I am becoming addicted to your blog Girl!!!

Hi everyone! So glad you are enjoying my Sudsy-Wudsy Bear story! To answer your questions: I don't think this was my original bear. But, to me, this IS my bear as it is the only one I've seen in all these years that looks so much like my Sudsy Wudsy...and, believe me, I've looked everywhere. Isn't he just too precious! For me, finding those lookalike toys and games from childhood is like reaching back in time, retrieving those sweet memories and enjoying them all over again! What a trip!
