This brings up a lot of questions for me. Why was the cupboard bare? Did she have more food in the back room? Did someone else take the food? How did this happen? Hmmm...what do you think?
goodmorning Coralie... Hi there.. I always enjoy my visit here.. Thanks for the inspiration. Please take time out to pop over to my blog and enter my give away to celebrate my Bloboversary xoxo ((((hugs)))) Maggie
Coralie your blog is always such a wonder. I get to see these pictures of simpler times and I can't but smile. Although starving of food may not be simpler.
I am in total agreement with Dawn..my first thought is...hmmmmmmm, where's the cat and how fat is the fat cat? :). Poor doggie..though suspiously, he doesn't look too skinny.
Hmmm...good question. I, for one, wonder what type of cupboard did she have, exactly. Free standing like a hoosier cabinet? Or built in to the wall in a corner, perhaps? Was it painted a nice warm color? Or perhaps a nice blue or green? Or white? Oh, I love white. Or was it stained wood...perhaps natural? And were the bones "milkbones?" Because I hate to think of real bones being stored in a cupboard. Would that actually be sanitary? I hope it wasn't a chicken bone. Chicken bones are bad for doggies. I hope it was a nice, nonsplintering type of bone. But back to the cupboard. Do you have a cupboard? What color is yours? ;-)
I'm loving all of your comments! What fun! I do not know where this illustration originated. I have it from a collage sheet I bought a while ago.
So I guess the consensus is that we can blame the bare cupboard on the cat, the teenage son, the children, the dog, or the husband...anyone but Old Mother Hubbard. Sounds kind of fishy to me!
Hi Coralie, I laughed when I saw this post. Go to my blog other blog... lifesoverhaul.blogspot.com then to the August posts and find "Old Mother Hubbard" for my version of this....Hope you get a giggle too? As for this post...The Butler did it!
Sunny says the cat did it.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
ah... i didn't even think about that! her and the dog look fairly happy (and plump!)... i'm going with the back room theory.

Thank you for your nice comments on my blog. Yes, we are proud of our daughter and I know you're proud of your grandson too.
ReplyDeletePoor Mother Hubbard. I always felt sorry for her.
I like your background. I had the pink version of it on one of my blogs for awhile.

I love this old photo.
ReplyDeleteBy the looks of her pointed hat, she should have been able to 'conjure' up a little something!

ReplyDeleteI think they had a party last night and need to go to the cellar and re stock the pantry.
ReplyDeleteMother Hubbard doesn't look like she's missed a meal either? I actually remember seeing this somewhere. Do you know where it was originally posted?
ReplyDeleteWhere is Mr. Hubbard? That might be the answer to all of your questions!
ReplyDeleteYour questions made me chuckle! I think she has a teenage boy in the house!
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Gwen:)
If she has kids that's where all the food went.
ReplyDeleteThat's why us moms hide our favorite cookies and they still seem to disappear.

I guess I assumed she was broke and couldn't buy any more. That or maybe the dog ate it all while she was out.

Hmm, Coralie, that mother doesn't look very old, does she?
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm..........this nursery rhyme brings back memories of my mom telling them to me. I think the cupboard was just plain bare.
