As it turned out, I have had the supreme pleasure of having several collies and shelties as dear beloved pets in my life for which I will be forever grateful. Their lovely personalities are a joy to behold!
Through the years, I began to collect Lassie books and now have a sweet collection. These I will share with you during the coming week. We start today with Lassie and the Daring Rescue!
How many of you have enjoyed the Lassie stories in books, films, and/or TV? Did you have a favorite?
I loved watching the TV series with little Timmy.
ReplyDeleteI can still hear the theme song in my head.
The little storybooks are so precious.
Have a wonderful weekend sweety.
hugs~~Sissie
Oh how I loved Lassie. I always hid behind Gramma Eddies chair until I knew Lassie was safe. I never seemed to worry about Timmy because I knew Lassie would save him.
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
I have several of the Whitmas Tweens books in my collection & yes, I have read them. They are charming....

I loved Lassie...My sister had a collie years ago...
ReplyDeleteLassie books are great and the films are as well.
ReplyDeleteObviously must have been a distance relative of mine ;-)
Wizz :-)
Oh how I loved Lassie when I was a child! Guess I had a little speech impedement when I was really small because to this day my family laughs about me crying "Poor Grassie!" every time she got into a scrape and I thought she wouldn't make it! ;)
ReplyDeleteJust about any good book about dogs had my attention and even now, seeing a dog on the jacket of a book in a store or library will stop me in my tracks!
ReplyDeleteLassie is so beautiful
ReplyDeleteI wasn't into Lassie, but understand your joy at having a collection of vintage Lassie books.
ReplyDeleteI've love Gladys Taber for years and years. And over that time, managed to collect most all of her books. :-)
Gentle hugs...
My late sister Pat had a beautiful collie named, of course, "Lassie". She was a military wife and my late brother-in-law was overseas when she got the dog to help her protect her five boys. That dog was a sweetheart. My husband often tells stories about "Cindy" his neighbors dog that he loved as a child. Every summer the Relefords shaved Cindy and she loved it! But if you muttered the word C A T every neighborhood cat would be up a tree because Cindy loved to chase them! She was revered & feared in the old neighborhood! I love the Golden Books! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI never missed an episode of "Lassie" with Jon Provost as Timmy. I even have a pic of him as I had a California friend who knew Tim & Jay North (Dennis the Menace) as teens. I long for those old days when television was not filled with the garbage we see today! I admired Lassie for getting the help Timmy needed when he fell into the well! I still get misty eyed over that one!
ReplyDeleteWonder if it would be copywrite infringement to say "I love Lassie!" I keep forgetting you have this second blog.
ReplyDeleteI remember only seeing a few episodes of Lassie growing up but I do recall always wanting a 'Lassie' dog. Everytime I saw a collie I thought of Lassie:).
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kim
We were faithful followers of the TV series for years.
ReplyDeleteThey reran the old show that was from the 50s, I think, and I watched that all the time! I remember crying alot, because Lassie always put herself in danger! I have wanted a collie ever since I was little, and I love how you collect the books!
ReplyDeleteLassie on his long way home.
ReplyDeleteOh how I cried.
And how happy I was, when he came back to Timmy
I loved watching the TV series with little Timmy.
ReplyDeleteMany Years ago!!!!!
Smile...Luna
Lassie is such a great one! I cannot wait to see all your books!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Lisa
I loved the Lassie shows. Alas, our border collie is no Lassie. I never saw Lassie chew on pencils or tear paper taken from the trash. Lassie also never was seen sitting on the furniture when no one was looking. We love our Bucky just the same.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteNot too long ago AMC had an afternoon of Lassie movies on and I got to watch them with my grandkids.
Coralie, I grew up watching Lassie on tv. First there was Jeff's Collie and then Timmy and Lassie. I loved both those shows and wish they still played. Twyla
ReplyDeleteAhhhh how I loved Lassie as a child. "Lassie Come Home" was a story I remember crying over. I used to read the books, watch the movies and follow the television series. I have always loved collie dogs wether they were Shelties, Scotch, Border, or Austrailian shepherds. The breeds all had the Collie traites and they were extremely intelligent. My Mandy was either border collie or Austrailian Shepherd and she was the best dog we ever had. We now have a sweet little puppy which is a Shitsui mix and we adore her but she will never replace Mandy.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome blog you have. I just discovered you via another blog and am very intrigued. I look forward to more exploration of your past posts, too.
