Language for Little People!

I dearly love old books (oh, and new ones too, for that matter) with all of their quaint and charming illustrations and words! Look at these 1907 kids...aren't they just too adorable!

The American Book Company produced hundreds of different readers and primers during the early Twentieth Century! The book shown above and many other vintage collectible books are available in my VINTAGE COTTAGE HOME etsy shop! Take a look!

  2. Besides loving the languageI adore the detail in the illustrations. Wouldn't it be so much fun to have a dog you could hitch to a cart and take you for a ramble.

I rarely see illustrations in books anymore that provoke my imagination.

    Love all your sweet books.

  6. Just lovely :) The art, though no color...let's our imagination fill in the pics...like a child's coloring book :)

I have a chance to head to a book sale!
They promise lots of old children's books dated 1930 to 1960 I am so excited!

  9. I especially love the illustrations in old childrens books, I find many new books have very ugly illustrations.

  11. Those stories remind me of the ones in my first grade class about Dick and Jane. Do you remember those?

I'm going to have to check out that site...I love collecting things. Of course, I've made a vow to watch the buying for awhile! LOL

  13. Love these books, Coralie ... the art graphics draw me. I have a copy of that first wee girl pics. How come our beautiful stories of yore don't interest the wee ones of today ... sad.

    Happy St. Patrick's Day ~
    Have a lovely weekend.

  14. I agree with Ann's comment: your header is adorable! And I love those old books from a time when school books weren't part of someone's political agenda, as they have been in Texas (my home state) this week.

  16. What a lovely book, they certainly don't make them like that anymore :) . I always gravitate towards the old books at our library book sale. This year I came home with a 1946 edition of Roget's Pocket Thesaurus. I had to have it because the cover is a lovely floral print ;) !
    Blessings,
    Catherine :)

  17. I too love your header, and those pages from the books are just so charming, and so innocent. I love that they were in black and white, so that it left more to the imagination of the child reading the book. Sad that we can't have that innocence in our children's books today.

  18. Just have to say...That old saying about you can't tell a book by its cover has gone by the wayside for me too! I love the fancy old covers of some books and, if they are falling apart, so much the better. Then I create beautiful altered books with scraps and ephemera!
