Raising The Big Top!

Here are a few photos of the raising of the Big Top from the 1970's 100th Anniversary Ringling Brothers Circus Book I found at an antique mall. They bring to mind the book, Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen. Have you read it? A fascinating novel and look at circus life in the early 1900's. Not always a pretty picture, for sure, but certainly an interesting read about a part of our country's history not often written about.

The picture's are fantastic...but i'm afraid I am not a circus lover...for all it's magic and wonder..there was such a cruel dark side to it as with many thing's that are loved ...

I really do have to agree with you about the dark side of circus life. I find the history of the circus interesting but certainly not the best world for animals to live in. I think that Sara Gruen really captures the reality of the circus in her book "Water for Elephants" and brings both good and bad to light.

I can only imagine how much fun it must have been to watch the circus set up in towns!
