Playing dress-up was the best of fun all summer long when school was out! Our mothers let us wear their grown-up high heels, hats, and purses. And we were as stylish as can be!
As pre-teens, we walked to school together every day. It was a mile up the hill and a mile back down in the afternoon. But the walk was never long for we had so many things to talk about. We talked about movie stars, our teachers, and our dreams for the future.
As teenagers we spent every morning outdoors in summer and shared classes in school in winter. Gail was my best friend. I loved her dearly. As an adult, she became the bank manager of our small town. I married and moved away but my caring for her never stopped. Gail passed away this past weekend and I am stunned. I knew better, but I wanted to believe that we had forever.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful memory of one you love my friend. Early in my blogging days (last January) I shared a story of my friend Laura. She had such a hard life...when she passed away I was also stunned...
Life is short. Best live it to the fullest while we can.
You must be a dear friend.
Love, Rebecca
Although shes gone ... While you still breath the air she will always be near...You looked more like sisters than friends...

ReplyDeleteCoralie,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your best friend Gail. My best friend Gail passed away a few days before Christmas in 2006. The hurt is always there, but the fantastic memories of our fun, laughter, mischief and dress-up times balances everything out as best it can. May YOUR Gail memories be as sweet as mine. Know that my heart goes out to you, along with prayers for her wonderful future in heaven. One day, we'll all be dancing there and trying on each other's halo's.
Oh, I'm so sorry Coralie. I know you'll carry her in your heart.

I'm so very sorry Coralie for your loss. My best friend from my "younger" days passed away in August, 2000. I have often told everyone that she was not just my best friend, she was my sister. I think that Gail was your "sister in heart," too. I share your beautifully haunting thought..."I knew better, but I thought we had forever." It would have been so wonderful for Lynn and I to have shared our grandchildren in the same way we had shared our days as young mothers. Gentle hugs to you, Coralie. We were lucky to have known such "sisters" in our lifetimes.
ReplyDeleteSending peace to your heart,
Marilyn
Coralie, I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose someone who holds a piece of your heart, and there isn't anything I can say that will lessen that pain. Know that I am thinking of you, and that I will be praying for your comfort and peace. Here is a verse that has always brought me comfort; hopefully it will do the same for you:
ReplyDelete"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
You will see her again; she is home.
Molly
I am so sorry to hear of your friend's passing. I received your book and started reading it last night. It is so much fun, and I feel as though I know you already. Thank you so much for this awesome treasure. I try not to read too much so I can savor each story. It is wonderful, and so well written. It is lovely to have such fond memories and even better shared.
